CVRHS History

The Central Vermont Railway Historical Society was formed in late 1989 by Marty McGuirk, after a letter to Railroad Model Craftsman prompted enough response to convince Marty that the interest levels could sustain a historical society dedicated to the Central Vermont. Marty was soon joined by the late Charles Harbage as our first Editor and Alan Irwin as Vice President. Matt Ahern served briefly as our first Treasurer, and the late John Haropulos became our first Secretary, a job he performed faithfully for many years.

The first Ambassador was published in the Spring of 1990 and was produced on a copy machine, which was true of all issues until Vol 2, No. 2, which was the first produced by a commercial printer.

From the few initial members and copied publication, the CVRHS has grown into an organization of over 350 members in its twenty-eight year existence.
