CVRHS Archives

The Central Vermont Railway Historical Society, as part of its stated mission of preserving the history of the Central Vermont Railway, maintains or contributes to the maintenance of two document archives pertaining to the Central Vermont.

One archive is maintained at the University of Vermont Bailey Library and consists largely of Central Vermont materials donated by the Grand Trunk Corporation following the sale of the Central Vermont to the New England Central. It also contains records pertaining to many Vermont railroads from the collection of the late Stearns Jenkins. The cataloging of this collection is a work in progress funded by the CVRHS, with work being performed largely by Jerry Fox, a CVRHS Director and historical researcher.

The second archive also consists largely of Central Vermont materials donated by the Grand Trunk Corporation following the sale of the Central Vermont to the New England Central. Under the watchful eye of CVRHS Director and former CV dispatcher Jim Murphy, this collection resides in Saint Albans at the historical society museum. Our funding of this collection is currently focused on providing adequate means to store the materials and provide ready access for future cataloging.
